Dedication of KB Scholar Fund at Lutheran North Middle and High School

Lutheran North Middle and High School  is proud to announce the dedication of the KB Scholar Fund which took place on March 2, 2023.  This new scholarship fund honors the memory of Kevin Juan Ballentine, a beloved alumnus and friend.

The dedication ceremony at Lutheran North Middle and High School joined alumni and current students to celebrate this new chapter and included uplifting remarks from Kevin’s friends and family, as well as school administrators. Additionally, two students were awarded need-based scholarships of $5,000 each as the first recipients of the scholar fund’s contributions. These scholarships and the creation of this fund was made possible by the sacrifice and continual work of the KB Scholarship Committee consisting of Barry Wynn, Gerald Kirk, Cornelia Levels, Steve Chandler, Ron Sallee and many alumni graciously giving!

“We are honored to dedicate the KB Scholar Fund in memory of Kevin Ballentine,” said Lutheran North Principal, Dr. Tim Brackman. “Kevin was an exceptional member of our community, and we are proud to celebrate his legacy and support future generations of Crusaders through this scholarship fund.”

Kevin Ballentine, who passed away in 2020, was a 1980 graduate of Lutheran North and a standout leader, scholar and athlete. He was known for his dedication to his faith and his unwavering commitment to success in all areas of his life. After high school, he attended Missouri Southern University in Joplin on an athletic scholarship. There, he was able to enjoy his football playing days at the next level while continuing his academics. He later graduated from the University of Missouri, St. Louis with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

Kevin was a devoted father and son whose love and support were a daily inspiration to his family. He could be counted on to be there in person or spirit on every occasion.

The KB Scholar Fund will provide financial support to deserving students who embody Kevin’s leadership qualities, academic excellence, and commitment to their faith. Each year, a student or students will be named the KB Scholar(s) of the year and receive financial support to further their education and pursue their own ‘fight for success’.

“It is exciting to honor Kevin’s memory and continue his legacy through the KB Scholar Fund,” said Kirk Mueller, Major Gifts Officer. “We invite all members of the Lutheran North community to join us in supporting this fund as we continue providing a quality, Christian education for so many in North County”.
