School/ College Counselor

The Lutheran High School Association of St. Louis is seeking to hire a School/College Counselor for the 2024 - 2025 School Year at its Lutheran North Middle and High School campus.  Lutheran North is a diverse educational community whose unity is in Jesus Christ. Summary of Duties and Areas of Responsibilities:  The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Develop and manage an outstanding school and college counseling program, including management of the counseling budget
 
Oversee and/or carry out (with administrative assistance):
Grade-level programming:
Middle School (6th-8th): quarterly, grade level presentations
9th and 10th: minimum quarterly presentations
11th/12th: ongoing
College Counseling Program (Choice, Not Chance)
College planning (with the use of SCOIR)
Career/Technical Ed
Dual Credit 
Applications–essays, interview, portfolio
Financial Aid/Scholarships
Acceptances/matriculations/scholarship offers
College representative relationships
Standardized Testing
AP
Academic Advising (course selections, credit monitoring, credit recovery-with Registrar)
Career Fair
Personal/Mental Health/Wellness (students and faculty)-short term in office, referrals to our social worker and/or outside agencies
Program coordination–MO Scholars Academy, MO Girls and Boys State, various college programs, book awards, etc.
  • Maintain professional memberships/networking opportunities: NACAC, MOACAC, SLACC, and possible MSCA
  • Build and maintain professional relationships within the building and within the community
  • Support the school community by attending student events such as plays, concerts, and athletic events
  • Other duties as assigned
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Espouse and minister in accordance with the school’s philosophy of Christian education and the Lutheran church (LCMS)
  • Excited to work in a diverse, urban setting 
  • Possess a current counselor certificate from the State of Missouri 
  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years counseling experience
  • Ability and patience to work interactively with students
  • Organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deliver quality programming to 6th-12th grade students
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand and help meet the individual needs of each student
