Aubrey Parker Commits to Brown University

Choosing between Columbia, Cornell and Brown University, is a tough decision, but for Aubrey Parker it came down to a feeling. Brown University just felt like home.

“I loved it,” said Aubrey, 17. “It felt like a family…like Lutheran North.”

Aubrey was one of nine Lutheran North football players this year to receive a scholarship to continue his academic and athletic career in college. This is the fifth consecutive year that every senior on the team has received a scholarship offer. All but one has accepted it. Aubrey is the first to go Ivy League.

“Most kids will never get an opportunity to be at one of the nation's premiere academic institutions,” said Coach Carl Reed. “Aubrey Parker is a leader who will open up doors to those coming behind him. I can't wait to see what the combination of an elite school and elite person gives us in the future.”

At 5’10” and a 182 pounds, Aubrey helped lead the Crusaders to a state championship in 2019. As a cornerback and free safety, he was a hard-hitting ball hawk, who was outstanding in pass coverage and run support. Finding time to study, wasn’t always easy. But he said his father, as well as Coach Reed taught him discipline.

“You have to have focus,” said Aubrey, who also runs track. “At any time, you can throw school away for football, but you have to find balance.”

That balance included 5:00 a.m. practices, a full load of classes, including some that were advanced college credit, more practice, football games, and of course, homework. Reed said Aubrey, who lives in Shiloh, Illinois, put in the work and reaped the benefits.

“Why would you work that hard and not cash in on that opportunity?” asked Reed. “Brown graduates are starting careers straight out of undergrad with six-figure salaries. They are trendsetters in one of the most competitive job markets the country has ever seen.”

Aubrey plans to major in engineering at Brown, but his real passion is music. Upon graduation, he hopes to become a music producer.

“Mixing, making beats," Aubrey said, "I love music and art.”
