Lutheran North Football Muscles Up to Fight Hunger

Lutheran North football players worked out Tuesday by helping unload semi-trucks full of food and toiletry items for 800 families.

 

The school partnered with Operation Food Search and transformed its back parking lot into a drive-through food pantry where families were given both food and personal items. The football players unloaded 2,400 boxes, weighing 10 to 28 pounds each, in place of their strength and conditioning that day. The unloading began at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17 with distribution following until 2:00 p.m.

 

Coach Carl Reed said the service project reminds the players of the importance of volunteering and giving back to the community.

 

Operation Food Search distributes more than 35 million dollars worth of food and necessities to community partners in Missouri and Illinois. Through its emergency food distribution system, together with education programs, the organization gives struggling neighbors a range of coping mechanisms to help overcome the effects of hunger.
