Twins Become Co-Valedictorians for Class of 2020

They are twin brothers, teammates and study partners. Now Anthony and Carl Walker are co-valedictorians at Lutheran North and both headed to Washington University.

“They have always tried to do their best. I am very proud of them,” said their mom, Sherri Walker, LN ’83. “I love that they have done well in their classes, but the main thing for me is that they are loving, compassionate, caring kids.”

The Walker twins have been on the same robotics team, making it to state last year. They both played in the band together. Carl on clarinet. Tony on the flute. They participated in the school plays, although Tony preferred working behind the scenes, while Carl would take lead roles. Now they will share another stage together as they give their speeches as co-valedictorians.

Lutheran North provided the Walker brothers with the academic foundation for college, but their mom said she is most pleased with how the school helped build them into strong, Christian men.

“Lutheran North helped shape me into who I am today, and I wanted them to have that same experience,” Sherri said. “I am very happy they were able to attend here and that it all turned out so beautifully.”

The academic standouts at Lutheran North both received Bright Flight Scholarships, merit-based awards for those scoring in the top three percent of all Missouri seniors taking the ACT. They were both in the National Honor Society and on Student Council together.

The twins both plan to go into the field of science at Washington University. Tony is planning a career in chemical engineering with a focus on climate research and alternative fuels, while Carl plans to major in physics and perhaps double major in film or animation and use both for a career in science education. Though they are known to bounce ideas off each other or even compare notes, this year, they decided they will not take any classes together and more importantly, not room together.

“We’ve been roommates for the past 18 years. I think it is time for a change,” Carl said. “It’s going to be strange, but I’m also ready for it.”
